ONE WOMAN

Today is International W omen's Day and the United States has designated March as Women in History Month. I can't help but wonder what ONE woman has made an impact on your own life and made you want to emulate or perhaps not to emulate her behavior.

In the Bible, we are given Christ's perception of two women close to His heart as we hear about Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-41)

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Expecting Christ to perhaps admonish her sister who Martha decidedly left her to do all of the work, she begs the Lord to help her. But, Christ reminds us that the choice her sister made means more than all the preparations that Martha has done.

Don't we so often do the same thing?  We miss the event because we are so busy trying to get ready. Do we often miss God's intent in our lives or the many times He shows up because we are so busy getting ourselves to a place where we think we might finally attract Him?

It does not matter to the Lord if you do not feel ready for His visit. He doesn't care what your circumstance looks like or how disheveled your life is. He doesn't care what you have prepared for Him or how comfortable the surroundings. He cares only that you invite Him in and sit at His feet and listen.

What type of woman do you want to be? One that always looks together and has everything perfect or simply one that makes time for what is important?

Today thank a special woman in your life for the time she has made for you...perhaps a mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, colleague or even someone you meet that  made your day better because she took the time like Mary to really listen.

And Happy International W omen's  Day to all of the great women in my life who have added so many wonderful dimensions because  of what I have learned from you.
