Bucket List

Several months ago I saw the movie, The Bucket List with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. It got me thinking about what I really wanted to accomplish before my time is up. My husband and I along with some good friends decided to sit down and write our lists and then chat about them over dinner. One thing is for sure... I wish I would've done my list years ago. That's when we all agreed that it is important to write down goals and dreams and revisit them periodically as surely they will change based on our ages and current situation.

Although I didn't have a list in my twenties, I know that some of the things I would have put on there, I did manage to accomplish; raise a family; see some of the seven wonders of the world etc. Maybe our list becomes more whim than reality as we age or maybe we simply get bolder deciding we really do want to complete some significant dreams before our time is up.

That got me thinking even more that we should perhaps have a weekly or even daily bucket list with some small steps encouraging us to pursue at least some morsel of the things we really want to do regularly. What about you? Do you want a new career? Then what are you doing now to save some money or invest some time in the pursuit of that goal? Want to build your dream house on a lake? Have you begun looking at potential places and cutting out pictures of what you hope you will have down the road? Do you want to raise your children with a sense of responsibility and purpose? Then have you taken the time to introduce them to another's needs? Or if they are even too young for that, have you assigned them specific chores they need to attend to without your constant nagging and reminders? Do you want to be the size you were in college? Have you committed to some daily exercise and limiting your sweet tooth? Do you hope to repair that relationship that has gone sour? Have you tried to write a letter or make a phone call and begin the steps to work things out?

Once you have a bucket list, then what you do seems to have meaning and purpose in attempting to achieve it,if you can direct your energies, and resources or time to realizing there is a means to an end.

Everyone still has some things they want to accomplish. You might think that it's a great idea and that some day you will certainly create your list, but don't wait too long. Remember none of us is certain their some day won't be over today. Maybe you won't accomplish everything on your list, but maybe if you make one and leave it as a legacy, some one you love will follow it through for you.

My bucket list? Well, one thing was to archive all of our favorite family recipes for our children...so I'm off to gather all the cookbooks and faded recipe cards, while I watch that travel video once again about Tahiti and Bora Bora(Yes,it's STILL on my list!). How about you?

Have you found joy in your life?’ 'Has your life brought joy to others?’” From the movie, The Bucket List

  1. That's awesome! I was the exact same way. I saw the movie and it inspired me to create my own. If you have you list typed out somewhere I'd love to see it! :)
